Lindsay Roberts

Having qualified in Textile Design, I worked first as a hand weaver in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland, producing rugs and throws, hangings and cushions.

It’s there I learned hand spinning (taught not by a native islander but a speech therapist from London!). Since then I have incorporated hand spun yarn in most of my work, creating everything from purses to large works for the wall. My smaller crafted items I sell through The Border Tart

My hand spun yarns find their way into detailed collages which may also feature handmade and salvaged papers, silks, fibres, wire, paper beads and tiny objects.

A love of colour and texture has led me in new directions and I am currently exploring the use of acrylics on canvas panels, often combining them with fabric scraps, raw fibres, gold leaf, and stitchery through the stretched canvas
